The Best Ski Destinations for 2019

Winter may come with its drawbacks like saying goodbye to poolside cocktails for a while but it has its perks too.

Apart from the holidays, snow is the best thing about winter, and the USA is in for a bumper season if predictions are anything to go by.

So why not make the most of it with the best ski destinations for 2019? Here they are.

Telluride has it all. Tucked into a remote corner of southwest Colorado, this quaint village bustles with unique shops and restaurants. It nestles against an attractive box canyon and boasts scenic views in every direction.

The lifts and gondolas reach up from just outside town to the neighboring Mountain Village, where the ski action happens.

There are slopes for every level of skier from the challenging Gold Hill Chutes through to the meandering Galloping Goose for beginners. Snowmobiling, snowshoeing, fat biking, and ice skating are also on the cards when you visit Telluride.

For after action satisfaction, head for the many bustling restaurants and taverns which make Telluride one of the coolest apres-ski hangouts around.

Jackson Hole

Jackson Hole may be synonymous with extreme skiing but it’s toned down in recent times. Now, beginners and intermediate skiers can safely take to the slopes too. They’ve even added a kid-friendly ski center at Solitude Station. Thanks to these more inclusive adventures, Jackson Hole draws more crowds every year.

While you’re in town, you can also take a dog-sled ride, enjoy a snowmobile tour, snow tube, or head out on a horse-drawn sleigh. Join the throngs for some apres-ski action at the famous Mangy Moose. It’s still considered one of the best places to let your hair down after 50 years in business.

Steamboat goes by the name ‘Ski Town USA’ for good reason. It’s been a top ski destination since 1963 and is still flying the flag high.  This down-to-Earth destination has already received a record 60-inches of snow this season.

Some of the best slopes are only accessible via a long and winding hike, which means low traffic and fresh snow for those who dare.

Steamboat is also home to the Double Diamonds Bar, recently voted the USA’s favorite apres-ski bar. Alternatively, you can soak away your worries in the natural healing hot springs found in this neck of the woods.

The Best Ski Destinations Outside of the USA

Are you thinking further afield? European destinations never fail to deliver an abundance of powdery pursuits either.

Some of the top places to slide down the slopes in this part of the world include Switzerland’s Murren, the Austrian Arlberg, and Val d’Isere in France.

Canada is no slouch in the snow department either, with top ski destinations at Lake Louise, Whistler, and Big White.

Needless to say, any travel blog will tell you to plan early if you want to secure your place in these top spots.

Beyond Snow-Skiing

If the best ski destinations aren’t your winter ideal, there are plenty of other cool things to do around the world. You can even head south and skip the winter altogether.
